Summer Programs

We now have Social Stories for most our summer programs.  Click on the link at the end of each program description to access a Social Story you can use to help your child become more comfortable with the program and more self confident about attending. 

 

All Stars Summer Program - Ages 6-12CORSE partners with the Scituate Recreation Department to provide our very successful “All Stars” Summer Program.  The main focus of this recreational program is to foster social relations and facilitate communication skills and interactions in a highly motivating, fun peer environment.   The emphasis of this two-week program in August is for children of all abilities to have an enjoyable summer social recreation experience involving team games, social skill building, exercise, sports, field trips and creative performances and activities. All Stars Teen Summer Extreme - Ages 13 and older With Scituate Recreation, we offer a one-week camp for older children with a variety of activities that are geared towards building teen-based social interactions.  All activities can be enjoyed by participants of all abilities - any child who would enjoy a positive, more relaxed camp experience as well as providing facilitative assistance for children identified with learning disabilities or special needs.  This program is a combination of summer field trip experiences and on-site group activities involving team games, social skill building, exercise, sports and creative performers.   Field trips are geared towards entertainment as well as opening up possibilities for new hobbies or social opportunities.   Click here for a Social Story about this program.

   

Therapeutic Horseback Riding - Ages 5 and up Therapeutic Riding is a six-week summer program and has many benefits for children with special needs including physical, sensory, emotional, cognitive and social opportunities.  This program introduces the child to all aspects of the riding experience including: becoming familiar with the farm setting, the animals, the equipment and the aspects of riding.  This program is run in partnership with an expert community provider.  Click here for a Social Story about this program.

 

 

"Maritime Adventures" Water Sports Camp -  Ages 6 to 22

We bring AccesSport America to Scituate for an innovative week-long specialty camp to provide skill-building experience in water sports: sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and paddle-boarding.  The camp provides specialized instructors and equipment from AccesSport America, a national, non-profit founded in 1995 that inspires higher function and fitness for children and adults of all disabilities through safe entry to high-challenge sports.  Click here for a Social Story about this program.

 

“Lose the Training Wheels” Bike Camp (2008, 2009 and 2012) - Ages 8 to 18

This specialized summer week-long camp teaches children how to ride a two-wheeler. We were the first and only group to bring this program to Massachusetts for two consecutive years.  86 children learned how to ride a two-wheeler for the first time. 

 

 

"Funtastics Gymnastics" - Ages 4 and up

These programs are designed specifically for special education students with an emphasis on gaining gross motor mobility as well as overall fitness, exposure to a variety of sensory integration stations, and participation in positive peer interactions, all in a supportive and nurturing environment.
